Taking a stab at 3d rendering with DAZ3D Studio 4.5.

Nice pose? May I give you a little tip?

Put UberEnvironment into the scene, this way the lights will start doing their thing and the skin will look realistic. You can also use some expressions. I can show you a few sites with great freebies.

Thanks so much for the advice! I couldn't get it to work at first, every render was coming out black, but I picked a different option (the fiery genesis one) and it looks much better now. ^_^

Do you know if there's a way to preview it before rendering? I'm having some issues with parts of the model being cut off in the render, so I have to go back and zoom out and re-render to capture everything.

And I would love to see some sites with freebies, thanks!

There is a general problem with choosing dimensions. It depends on the camera's view. You should be able to enlarge it by dragging around like a Windows... well, window :).

What I do is, because I mainly prepare transparent PNGs for private use and to be shared as stocks, I have two presets: first is 1000 high and 2000 wide, the second - the other way around. I just choose whether the pose is vertical or horizontal and try to place the figure in the middle, leaving like 80 pixels of free space around like a frame. It usually does the trick.

The renders tend to come black, because lighting is difficult. I suck at lighting! Laticis could give you great instructions (check the gallery for tutorials), I'm too lazy and stupid to make my own lights. I just load UberEnvironment, choose to highlight it in the "Scene" tab and choose the highest quality preset. It doesn't require moving around and such, so it's enough for such images I described above. You could try presets, Wancow has some for free. Paid ones by Lantios are okay for me. You would need to learn by trial and error, "Parameters" tab is your friend no matter you morph, style hair or clothes, check expressions and poses or customize lighting. Different colours give different results too.

Regarding freebies, I try to keep a track of my definite favourites here: - this is what DAZ gives for free for Platinum Club members or if you buy anything without the membership (now the collection sucks, they used to have REAL freebies for EVERYONE). - HAIRS!!! Difficult to get. - morphs and skins. Some are very good. - clothes, the easiest thing to get. The list includes some memorable ones. - props, scenes and lights (I think).

As you can see, I didn't make a list for poses, because they are both the easiest (apart from clothes) to find and the easiest to make yourself! I'd take a look for expressions though, they bring the figures to life :).

Ask anything!
